Description

Identify how to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in children

Microbes live everywhere, especially in childcare settings where children play together at close quarters. They come in all shapes and sizes – and not all are harmful.

On this course, you’ll discover what germs are and how they spread, looking at simple ways of stopping infections spreading. You’ll learn practical tips on keeping early years settings safe.

You’ll reflect on the importance of antibiotics and identify what antibiotic resistance is and how we can prevent it, exploring the ways you can protect children from infectious diseases – including proper use of antibiotics and vaccinations.

What topics will you cover?

  • Introduction to microbes, hand hygiene, and respiratory hygiene
  • Food hygiene, cleaning the environment, vaccination, and antibiotic use

Introducing microbes?

Microbiology underpins several of the topics covered within this activity. This activity will cover some concepts that can be applied to infection prevention and hygiene topics that we will refer to throughout the course.

Preventing spread of infection?

Good hand and respiratory hygiene is covered in this activity. Washing hands at key moments and catching coughs and sneezes using a tissue can help prevent harmful microbes from being passed on and reduce the spread of infection.

This course is so practical. It teaches me a lot of tips on how to prevent bacterial infection and how to protect my children better. That's great.

To prevent communicable diseases, we must understand what antibiotic resistance is and how we can prevent it. At the same time, explore ways to protect children from infectious diseases.

In this course, I learned what bacteria are, how they spread, and how to stop the spread of infection in simple ways. It's so practical.

As a preschool teacher, I have to say that there are too many microbes in the childcare facilities, and children will always encounter many bacteria, so how to prevent the transmission of diseases to children is our top priority.
