Last week’s Airdrie Public Library (APL) column was mainly about RBdigital’s content moving to OverDrive/Libby.
This week, we’re chatting about another move – the transition of Lynda.com to the LinkedIn Learning platform.
Lynda.com is a leading online learning platform that helps people learn business, software, technology, and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals. Through your APL library card, patrons have access to thousands of engaging, top-quality courses taught by recognized industry experts.
Courses have skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced and cover a wide variety of topics, including business, IT, marketing, 3D animation, photography, video, web development and too many more to list here.
Important takeaways from Lynda.com’s move to LinkedIn Learning include patrons being able to retrieve their Lynda.com profile history in LinkedIn Learning through their library barcode and PIN. LinkedIn Learning will also offer more than twice the content of Lynda.com, which translates to more than 16,000 courses in English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Mandarin and Portuguese.
Importantly, nothing from a patron’s account will be shared on their LinkedIn profile.
So, if you’re a Lynda.com user, your world of learning just got a whole lot bigger.
APL also has two new eResources that patrons may find helpful. Book Connections provides interviews, blog posts, book trailers, book lists, and more, and is a great tool for finding new books in any genre and offers support for homework or homeschooling.
Another resource is Teaching Connect, which helps educators identify books that have been filtered for curricular area, genre, cultural areas, awards won, and more.
Plus, you can easily share and include these in your instructional plans, newsletters, and social media.
This eResource also provides access to Diverse Books Toolkit, which helps educators infuse divers, inclusive, and culturally relevant material into fiction and nonfiction reading experiences.
